Outdoor Summer Fun
Friday, May 2nd, 2003Now that I’m graduated and have some extra time on my hands I’ve been thinking of some things I’d like to do this summer. One of the things I’d like to start doing again is camping and hiking. It’s probably been about 5 or 6 years since I’ve gone, but is something I’d like to try out again.
I spent a little time the other night searching for camping information in Utah. Unfortunately all I came across was endless lists of “campgrounds” around utah. I never really enjoyed the “campground” camping. Isn’t the whole point of going camping to “get away?” How’s that possible if you’re in a campground with a bunch of other people? Anyway, one of the places we used to go when I was in Boy Scouts was Diamond Fork which is just up Spanish Fork Canyon. From what little I could come across it looks like there’s still no restrictions on off the road camping in that area, so maybe that’s my best shot. It really is a nice area, or at least it was the last time I was there. The good thing is it’s only about a half hour drive from where I live.
I just wish I could find more. It would be nice if forest service provided a list of areas unrestricted camping is available and areas it isn’t. I know in recent years, with the dry weather, there have been significant restrictions placed on open fires and such. Maybe I just didn’t look hard enough but I couldn’t find anything. If anyone knows of any good camping information/resources, I’d be interested.
