Should I Upgrade

The new powerbooks are out. I thought they’d introduce them before the school year started but oh well. Should I upgrade or should I just be content with the nice system I have now? I have to admit, I’m a sucker for always wanting/getting “the latest and greatest.” Honestly the new system isn’t much better than the one I have now. There’s upgrades to USB 2.0, Firewire 800, 802.11g, 1.25 ghz processors, 80 GB harddrive, integrated bluetooth, etc. Honestly the thing I like most about the new powerbooks is the stylish new back lit metallic keyboard. It just looks slick and I have to admit, I really like it and want it. Fortunately I think reason will prevail and I’ll stick with the machine I have now for a while. That won’t stop me from seeing how much I could sell it for on eBay so I can calculate how much a new system would really cost. Who knows, maybe the bookstore will have another nice discount on the powerbooks (I doubt it).

I just ordered one of the new 15″ PowerBooks, but I’m betting the next revision, which should be in about 10-12 months, will incorporate the new G5. I just couldn’t wait any longer without one, but if you already have one, I’d say hold on. :-)

Yeah <sigh/> you make a good point. I’ll probably wait (jealously).

I’ve been shamelessly coveting a new powerBook for about 6 months now. I’ll have enough funds in my office capitol equipment budget to get one in about 5 months. Everything on my dell laptop has been replaced once except the keyboard and bottom half of the case. The customer support has been good though, I guess.

    Mike.

I had a dell before I got my powerbook. I liked it quite a bit. It ran good, the only hardware problem I had was with the docking station and Dell replaced it promptly. Their support is pretty good. I like the powerbook a lot more though. It’s light, thin, powerful, runs Unix, etc. I rarely caried my dell around due to its bulk and weight, as opposed to my powerbook that I take everywhere (for the most part). Whenever I make big purchases (in other words costly ones), I usually experience a twinge of guilt/regret afterwards. That never happened with the powerbook. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.
