DSL Upgrade

It looks like Qwest has upgraded their DSL service and is offering a free upgrade until the end of May. Meaning you can upgrade to a higher speed which costs the same per month as the current package and the upgrade fee is waved. Currently I’m on the Deluxe package, 640 Kbps down and 256 kbps up speed. The upgrade should take it up to 1.5 Mbps down and 896 Kbps up. Initially the information I received indicated the upload speed was staying at 256 Kbps. It’s a nice suprise to see it’s being increased also, since from a hosting perspective it’s more significant.

I guess I shouldn’t be too excited. I haven’t had any bandwidth problems/complaints yet, but like most guys I like things that are bigger, better, faster, etc etc. Anyway, I made the upgrade call and they said it should be enabled in the next few days. So, for those who have sites hosted on the server you should be able to upload and download files a little quicker. For the rest, you should be able to download quicker.

We’ve come a LONG way from the 2400 baud/second modem days, haven’t we?

Thanks for the heads up on the bandwidth increase. I currently have the Qwest Choice DSL Deluxe. My current speeds are still around 640K/256K, so I called Qwest today and they had to manually upgrade my account to get the higher bandwidth. I asked if this bandwidth upgrade was going to be automatically rolled out to all DSL Deluxe customers but she didn’t know. They did charge me a one-time $9.95 set up fee. My upgrade should be completed by 2/24/04, so I am interested to see how much my bandwidth actually increases.

    Qwest DSL Bandwidth Upgrade
I recently found out that Qwest upgraded the bandwidth for their DSL Deluxe accounts from 640Kbps/256kbps to 1.5Mbps/896Kbps for no extra cost. Of course those aren’t guaranteed numbers, Qwest always throws “up to” before all their numbers, but it defi…

Speak for yourself, Mr. bandwidth Man! I’m still lagging around in the 90’s with my wicked-awesome 56k dial-up connection. I looked into Qwest’s DSL service and by the looks of it, we should be getting DSL in my neighborhood sometime in the next 30 years. Until then, I hope you choke on your DSL. ;-) It really does suck though…
