A friend called today and said he tried to post a comment to my last entry and received a message that he was not allowed to post comments. Turns out last time I was adding IP addresses to my banned IP addresses I accidently added a blank entry which apparently matches any IP address. I thought it was a little unusual that I hadn’t received any comments for the past few weeks (particularly comment spam). I have to admit I really enjoyed the break from the comment spam. I removed the blank entry so comments should be allowed again. Sorry about that. Thanks for notifying me, Wayne.

I MADE IT! I FINALLY MADE IT. This is the best day ever. I was mentioned by name on this wedsite. Thanks Jeff. This is one of the proudest moments in my life. Now only if the other guy you live with would get his crap together and stop playing Halo long enough to update his blog once in a while. Merry Christmas and lets do dinner one night up in the big city….

Jeff,
I switched from MT to WordPress and the amount of comment spam has been reduced to a trickle. Dan even has some additional anti-comment spam plugins that will kill it once and for all. You should make the switch.

Hmmm…I’ve never thought about switching but I glanced over the wordpress site and it looks pretty good. How hard was it to migrate your MT blog to wordpress? I host about 5 other weblogs so I’m wondering how difficult it would be to migrate.

The migration was pretty straight forward and they have an MT migration utility that dumps the MT database which you can then import into your WP installation. I migrated MT->WP and had it up and running much faster than my initial install of MT. Once you start using Wordpress you realize how clunky MovableType is. Plus, I just found out today that there’s a new Wordpress plugin that sends the users browser a md5 checksum which has to be returned by the user’s form. It stops spammers because they can’t handle javascript. Yet. I’m going to implement it today.

HOLMSEY!!! What’s up buddy? Hope life is treating you well. I hope that you didn’t have new carpet with that pup! If you did we can swap some “kick your dog around” stories. Just kiddin’. Hey, give me a call sometime so we can catch a Texas Roadhouse or something. I think you have our latest cell number. (It hasn’t changed for quite a while) If not, email and I’ll give it to you. Take care.
